About the Academy

Kinni Valley History

When a place is as steeped in tradition as Kinni Valley Riding Academy, it’s hard to explain its evolution in print. Sometimes, it’s just best to experience the history by stopping by for a visit and taking a ride through our trails.

But, we’ll try telling our story.

With a vision of sharing his passion for horses and a desire to share the peace and joy one can gain by spending time on horseback, Tom Lowe opened his 260-acre family farm for trail rides in 1962. A family run business in the truest sense, the entire Lowe family participated in the farm’s management, including the youngest daughter, Carolyn.

By working together, Carolyn and Tom grew the business and earned a reputation for having the best trail rides and horse stables in Minnesota and Wisconsin. What began as a 13-horse farm has grown into a full-service horse stable and riding academy. Kinni Valley now has over 40 exceptional horses, three outdoor arenas, a heated competition-sized indoor riding facility, and some of the best horse education programs in the country.

While Tom still helps with the stables and with the trail riding horses, Carolyn is now the active owner and operator. Through trail rides, Kinni Valley reveals the joy and freedom that horseback riding can bring. The Riding Academy offers a platform from which riders can cultivate a passion for horses. Here, we teach students everything from horse grooming to different styles of riding through horse lessons, riding camps, clinics, and horse training. If students decide to lease or buy a horse, we help with that, too.

When you visit Kinni Valley, you’ll find that our philosophy hasn’t changed much in 50 years.
Our family run business still treats our guests like family, shares the joy, passion and love we have for horses, and gives you an experience you’ll never forget.

Kinni Valley Facilities
Kinni Valley is located about 30 minutes east of the Twin Cities in River Falls, Wisconsin. Our facility rests in the Kinnickinnic River valley and boasts 150-acres of pasture, rolling hills, and creeks. For trail rides, we take riders through three miles of meadows and streams. Our horse lessons use the trails, a heated indoor arena, and three outdoor arenas to accommodate our students. For both trail rides and horse lessons, you have access to our 40 hand-picked, gentle and responsive lesson horses.

Kinni Valley is more than a horse farm. It’s a little slice of paradise located in your back yard. Come visit us!
